Reminder: NERC large grant pitching workshop

We are inviting expressions of interest to apply for the 2018 round of NERC Large Grants.

NERC Large Grants support adventurous, large-scale and complex research tackling big science questions. Large grant projects are expected to have the potential to be world-leading, and are often interdisciplinary and collaborative.
Grants last for up to 5 years and are between £1.5 and £3.7m in total.

Large grant outline applications are accepted annually in March. Applicants submit an outline Je-S form plus attachments, including a 4 page case for support.

Pitching event
If you are planning to apply for a large grant or would like feedback on a research idea, you are invited to attend a pitching event on Wednesday 18th October 2-4pm in the room B09, Whelan Building. This will be an opportunity for colleagues to discuss ideas and provide constructive feedback.
Presentations should be 10 minutes long, consisting of no more than 4 slides. The presentation should outline:
• The research question/problem and the proposed research
• Justify how it fits the NERC large grant remit (as opposed to standard grant)
• The composition of the team, including any collaborators beyond the PI and Co-Is.
• The impact of the research and how this might be achieved

If you would like to present, please email Lucinda Thompson by 6th October.

Kind regards,
Lucinda
